A falling words typing game with a sticky twist
Gummylanche is a free falling words typing game you play right in your browser. Words fall from the sky on rows of wobbly jelly cubes, one letter on each cube, and drop into a big glass candy jar. Type a word before it lands and it pops in a shower of jelly bits and sparkles.
Here's the twist: a word that lands doesn't just disappear. It stays in the jar and the words pile up like blocks in a stacking puzzle. You can still type a landed word to pop it out of the pile, and everything above it drops down with a squishy bounce. But if the pile reaches the top of the jar, it's a gummy avalanche, and the game is over.
Gummylanche starts with short, easy words and slowly brings in longer words, capital letters and punctuation, so it's a typing game for kids that grows with them. Golden words are worth triple points, ice words slow everything down, bomb words pop a whole row, and at the end of every world a giant Gummy Bear floats down with a string of words to type.
Play 24 levels in four candy worlds, an endless mode with a high score, and a daily challenge with the same words for everyone. Teachers and parents can type in a spelling list and play it as falling words. After every game you see your words per minute (WPM), your accuracy, your best combo and the keys you missed. Gummylanche is free, there's nothing to download, and it works on school Chromebooks.
Golden, ice, bomb and Gummy Bear words
- Golden words shine and sparkle. Pop one for triple points.
- Ice words are pale blue and frosty. Pop one and everything falls in slow motion for six seconds.
- Bomb words are dark cherry red with a fizzing fuse. Pop one and every word in its row pops too. They're best when they've landed low in the pile.
- The Gummy Bear floats down at the end of each world (levels 6, 12, 18 and 24) holding a word. Type it and the bear bounces back up with a new word, until it bursts into a shower of gummies. It's big, so don't let it land!
Levels, endless mode and the daily challenge
The 24 levels are split into four worlds. Gumdrop Garden has short, easy words. Cupcake Hills has longer words. Sundae Peaks brings in capital letters (names, places and words that start a sentence), and Starlight Sweets adds punctuation: full stops, commas, question marks and words like don't and it's. You win a level if no more than half of its words land and the jar doesn't fill up, and that opens the next level. You get two stars if no more than a quarter of the words land, and three if no more than one word lands.
Endless mode keeps the words coming, faster and faster, with a Gummy Bear every fifth wave, until the jar overflows. Pick sweet words, everyday words, long words, tricky words with capitals and punctuation, single letters, or your own list. The daily challenge drops the same words for everyone each day over six waves, so you can compare scores with friends and keep a daily streak.
A word typing game that helps with spelling
Every word in Gummylanche has to be typed letter by letter, so it's spelling practice as much as typing practice. With My words in Endless mode, you can type or paste a spelling list, separated by spaces, commas or new lines, and play it as falling words. The list stays in your browser. For the youngest players, the Letters list drops one letter at a time, which is a gentle way to learn where the keys are.
Your results: WPM, accuracy, best combo and missed keys
After every game Gummylanche shows your score, your typing speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy, your best combo, how many words you caught before they landed, and the keys you missed most. WPM counts every five correct letters as one word. Because you sometimes wait for the next word to fall, Gummylanche counts the time you spend typing, not the time spent waiting.

How to play Gummylanche
- 1
Type the falling words
Every word falls on a row of jelly cubes. Type the first letter of a word to pick it, then type the rest. The word pops when you type its last letter.
- 2
Catch them before they land
Words you pop in the air are worth double. A word that lands stays in the jar, and the words pile up.
- 3
Keep the jar from filling
You can type a landed word to pop it out of the pile. If the pile reaches the top of the jar, the game is over.
- 4
Use the special words
Golden words give triple points, ice words slow time, bomb words pop a whole row, and the Gummy Bear needs all its words typed.

Tips for popping more words
Lowest word first
Type the word that's closest to landing first. Words high in the sky can wait.
Accuracy beats speed
A wrong key breaks your combo. Typing a little slower without mistakes pops more words.
Save the bombs
Let a bomb word land low in the pile, then pop it to clear a whole row.
Use ice when it's busy
If lots of words are falling, pop the ice word to slow them all down.
Changed your mind?
Press Backspace to let go of a word, then type the first letter of another one.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a typing game where words fall?
Yes, Gummylanche is one. Words fall from the sky on rows of jelly cubes and you type each word before it lands. In Gummylanche the words that land pile up in a glass jar, so you have to keep the pile from reaching the top.
What happens when the jelly reaches the top of the jar?
The game is over. Every word that lands stays in the jar and the pile grows, so pop the words before they land, and type landed words to clear them out of the pile. When a word is popped, the words above it drop down.
What do the golden, ice and bomb words do?
Golden words give triple points. Ice words slow everything down for six seconds. Bomb words pop every word in their row, which is a great way to clear the pile.
What age is Gummylanche for?
It's made for school-age kids and anyone learning to type. The first world uses short, easy words, and the Letters list in Endless mode drops single letters for younger children who are just finding the keys. Later levels with longer words, capitals and punctuation are a good challenge for older kids and grown-ups too.
Can a typing game help kids learn to type?
Practice is what makes typing faster, and a game makes practice fun. Gummylanche starts slow, adds harder words a little at a time, and shows after every game which keys you missed most, so you know what to practise next. Kids who want lessons for each row of the keyboard can try the career in Keytona.
Does Gummylanche help with spelling?
Yes. Every word is typed letter by letter, and with My words in Endless mode you can type in a spelling list from school and practise it as falling words.
Is Gummylanche free? Do I need to download anything?
Gummylanche is free and runs in your web browser. There's nothing to download, nothing to buy and no account to make.
Does it work on a school Chromebook, a tablet or a phone?
Yes. Gummylanche is built to run smoothly on school Chromebooks, and it lowers its graphics on its own if a computer is slow. On a phone, hold it upright: the jar sits above the on-screen keyboard. A tablet with a keyboard plays just like a computer.
What do WPM and accuracy mean?
WPM means words per minute: every five letters you type correctly count as one word. Accuracy is the share of your key presses that were right. To see what a good speed is for your age, check the Typing Test.
Does Gummylanche save my progress?
Yes. Your stars, high scores, daily streak and word list are saved automatically in the browser you play in. Clearing your browser data resets them.
